Mayo Clinic Minute – Where is the kidney stone belt?

Dehydration in hot climates,
combined with certain diets, are increasing risks that can result in kidney
stones. Dr.
Ivan Porter II, a Mayo Clinic nephrologist, describes intense
weather areas, such as the South and Southwest, as the kidney stone belt. This is where research shows kidney stones are more prevalent. For
the safety of its patients, staff and visitors, Mayo Clinic has strict masking
policies in place. Anyone shown without a mask was recorded prior to COVID-19
or recorded in an area not designated for patient care, where social distancing
and other safety protocols were followed.
