Is ACA certification right for you in Florida?

We want you to enroll with the full picture. Our certification is a private, national credential built for private-duty, family, and non-medical caregiving. It is not a Florida state license, and we would rather make that clear before you enroll.

Right for you if you are

  • A private-duty or independent caregiver chosen directly by a family
  • A family member caring for a parent, spouse, or loved one
  • Working in private-pay, non-medical home care
  • Adding a recognized credential to your resume or showing training to private clients
  • Planning to start your own caregiving service

It does not replace

  • State-approved HHA training at a Medicare or Medicaid certified home health agency
  • A Florida CNA credential and listing on the Florida Nurse Aide Registry
  • A nursing license or any clinical scope of practice
  • Training that a specific employer or workplace requires
Not sure which you need? If your role requires a Florida state-approved credential, check that requirement first. We would rather tell you now than have you enroll expecting something different. Call us at 1-800-625-8108 and we will point you in the right direction.
Caregiver rules in Florida

How caregiving works in the Sunshine State

Florida is home to one of the largest senior populations in the country, so the need for trained, compassionate caregivers keeps growing. The rules depend on the kind of care you provide.

  • Private-pay caregivers: Florida does not license individual private-pay caregivers. It licenses the agencies that employ them. For private-duty, family, and non-medical roles, there is no state training mandate.
  • CNAs: must complete a state-approved program, pass a competency exam, and be listed on the Florida Nurse Aide Registry.
  • Home Health Aides at licensed agencies: complete state-set training on top of the federal baseline of 75 hours.
  • Paid family caregivers: those paid through Florida Medicaid self-direction pass a background screening and are generally not required to hold a formal certification.

Where ACA fits: a recognized national credential for the private, non-medical side of caregiving. It gives you real training and clear proof of that training, which private families and employers value.

Florida FAQs

Questions Florida caregivers ask

Do I need a license to be a caregiver in Florida?
For private-pay, non-medical caregiving, Florida does not require an individual license. The state licenses the agencies, not the caregiver. If you want to work as a CNA or as a home health aide at a Medicare or Medicaid certified agency, you must complete state-approved training for that role instead.
Is ACA certification recognized in Florida?
Yes, as a private national credential. Private families, private-duty clients, and many non-medical home care employers value documented training. It is not a state-approved program, so it does not replace the training a Medicare or Medicaid agency must use. If a role requires a state credential, check that requirement first.
Can I get paid to care for a family member in Florida?
Often yes. Florida Medicaid self-direction lets eligible families pay a relative to provide care after a background screening. A formal certification is usually not required, but training makes you a safer and more credible caregiver. Confirm the details with your Florida Medicaid program.
How long does the course take, and how much is it?
The core course is $99 and is self-study, so you set the pace. Some finish in a couple of days and others take a couple of weeks. Everything is handled by email, and the price includes the manual, exam, certification, and registry entry.
How can a family or employer verify my certification?
Once you complete the course you are listed in the National Caregiver Registry. A family, employer, or insurer can contact the ACA to confirm that you hold an active certification in good standing.
