CalPERS to host retirement-planning conferences

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System is hosting two events next month intended to educate members about the fund’s services and products.

On June 5-6, CalPERS will set up at the Hilton Pasadena Hotel. The next week, June 12-13, the venue shifts to the Sofitel San Francisco Bay Hotel in Redwood City. Both events run from 8:30 a.m to 4 p.m. each day. There’s no charge to attend.

The Pasadena session caters to some 286,000 active CalPERS school, state and local government members in Los Angeles, Orange, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties. The Bay Area event targets active members in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, and Sonoma counties, about 229,000 total.

Representatives will be on hand to answer questions about retirement benefits, the state’s Savings Plus program, long-term care coverage, Social Security and more. Retiree associations, health insurance companies and other organizations with programs for CalPERS members will staffexhibits. Special sessions will cover topics from the standpoint of members early to mid-career in public service and those nearing retirement.

CalPERS suggests registering in advance via its website, although walk-up registration will be available.
