Collaborative care helps mom beat complex melanoma, neurologic side effects

After Christina was diagnosed and treated with melanoma a decade ago, she thought that chapter of her life was over. But in January 2021, her cancer returned.

Christina began treatment near her Orlando home but soon, her health began rapidly deteriorating. Unable to find answers, Christina came to Mayo Clinic, where she was diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis.

A team, led by neurologist Dr. Sebastian Lopez and melanoma specialists from the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, rallied together to treat Christina’s cancer and resolve her neurologic challenges.

Today, she is cancer-free and, finally, enjoying a new lease on life as a mom.
