Opioids are medications used to treat acute pain. While effective when used as directed by a doctor, opioid abuse has skyrocketed. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Opioids are now the main driver of drug overdose deaths in the U.S.

Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, is now available over the counter without a prescription following a decision by the Food and Drug Administration. Naloxone is a rescue medicine that can be used in the event of an overdose.
