For undergraduate students joining Mayo Clinic’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program, the 10-week experience is sometimes the first step toward a career in biomedical research and medicine. SURF student Eran Maina spent time doing research in the Mayo Clinic cancer lab of Evette Radisky, Ph.D., and made a discovery that opened a new avenue in ovarian cancer research. He was inspired to explore a career in research and medicine following his mother’s treatment for cancer with Sanjay Bagaria, M.D., at Mayo Clinic in Florida.
