Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC) is a reversible clinical entity that mimics an acute coronary syndrome (ACS). TC is the final diagnosis for 1% to 2% of patients presenting with suspected ACS.
It typically occurs in postmenopausal women and is precipitated by emotional or physical stressors in the majority of cases. Most patients present with symptoms suggestive of acute ischemia or heart failure.
Differentiating TC from ACS is important due to their distinct pathophysiology, management and prognosis.
