Become a Self-Employed Caregiver

There are a lot of individuals that have a good heart, compassion and want to help others. And, many of these same people are looking do this as a self-employed caregiver, but they are not always sure about how to start on the path to establishing their own private duty caregiver company. The prospect of starting your own company can be intimidating but today it’s easier than ever, especially when it comes to getting the word out about your services, etc.  Technology has afforded us the opportunity to quickly and affordably create a website, advertise and connect to various platforms to help you along your journey to starting your own caregiver business.

And, while the American Caregiver Association offers a number of certification options for you, what we typically recommend for you if you are wanting to work as a self-employed caregiver, is our Caregiver Business Bundle (CBB).  The CBB is essentially a starter package for anyone wanting to break into the field as a self-employed caregiver. Lets go over what’s included in the CBB.

The Caregiver Business Bundle includes the following items:

  • The National Caregiver Certification Course (NCCC)
  • 120 hours of in-class credit for the NCCC course
  • The Start Your Own Caregiver Service Business Guide
  • Caregiver ID Card
  • Membership with the American Caregiver Association
  • National Caregiver Registry (NCR) status as an independent care provider
  • The added value that you get with this bundle is that you get a secondary status in the NCR as an Independent Provider, as well as DBA (e.g., “Doing Business As”) status in the NCR.

Now, while everything in the CBB is important, the most important aspect is your status in the National Caregiver Registry (NCR). The NCR is very much akin to the BBB in that we have a rating system in the NCR. And, when prospective employers, family members or clients want to ascertain your credentials they will contact the ACA to do this and they will look to determine your status in the NCR. NCR status is only acquired through obtaining certification with the American Caregiver Association.

If you’ve ever wanted to start your own caregiver service business the American Caregiver Association gives you the tools you need to get started with the Caregiver Business Bundle. Any questions? Email us at info@americancaregiverassociation.org, or call us at 1-800-625-8108.
