Who is the National Certifying Organization for Caregivers?
If you have been in the caregiver field for any length of time, own an assisted living facility, a home health company, or are a self- employed caregiver it may have crossed your mind at one time or another as to who is the national certifying organization for caregivers is. Answer: The American Caregiver Association is the national certifying organization for caregivers. The American Caregiver Association also oversees the National Caregiver Registry (NCR), the official registry for caregivers certified at the national level.
Establishing Ourselves as the National Certifying Organization for Caregivers
Prior to the establishment of the American Caregiver Association in 1985 an ‘Official’ national certifying body did not exist. The goal of the American Caregiver Association was to take on that role and become the national certifying organization for caregivers. The American Caregiver Association has done that. Another goal of the American Caregiver Association was to offer credible non-medical caregiver training courses to those who needed them for any number of reasons, to include family caregivers, private duty caregivers, and those needing caregiver certification for an insurance purpose. As home health companies began to spring up over the past several decades, the American Caregiver Association was at the forefront of caregiver certification, offering caregiver certification to home health company owners and their staff. This provided a great way to both educate employees, as well as supplement in-house training and state level certification and training.
Expanding our Reach Globally
As the American Caregiver Association expanded so too did our reach. Through our affiliate partners around the globe we help to educate caregivers throughout the world to care for loved ones, or any one else who needs care. We are honored to play such an important role on an International level, as well as here in the United States. Despite our global role, there remains a small portion of individuals, home health company owners, and assisted living owners who are not aware of who is the national certifying organization for caregivers is, which is why putting together a blog of this nature helps to educate the general public about who we are, what we do and what our collective mission is.
